A consortium of companies has delivered the first MSMB 200 high-speed motor boat to the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV).

The delivery marks the start of a programme to strengthen the Swedish Armed Forces’ maritime capabilities, with up to 100 vessels planned over the next seven years.

The consortium is led by Stockholm-based technical consultancy Svekon. The boats are produced by Alukin Aluminium Boats, part of the Nimbus Group, and are based on a proven civilian design adapted for military use.

- Through the delivery of this vessel, we demonstrate our ability to combine a civilian platform with the stringent requirements of military use. The result is a modern, cost-effective and operationally relevant solution for the Swedish Armed Forces, said Johan Lantz, chief executive officer of Svekon, in a press release.

Proven civilan platform

A framework agreement was signed in autumn 2024 between FMV and Svensk Konstruktionstjänst AB (Svekon), with production undertaken by Swedish boatbuilder Nimbus.

MSMB 200

The MSMB 200 (mindre snabbgående motorbåt typ 200) is an aluminium vessel measuring just over 11 metres in length and equipped with a high-output inboard engine.

It has been developed to meet operational requirements across both the navy and the Home Guard.

The platform accommodates a crew of two and up to 1.2 tonnes of payload, offering flexibility across a range of maritime tasks.

The design leverages a proven civilian platform adapted for military use, enabling more cost-efficient procurement while supporting compressed delivery timelines.

The result is a modern, fit-for-purpose platform aligned with the Swedish Armed Forces’ requirements for functionality, reliability and usability.

The programme has been highlighted by the Swedish Security and Defence Industry Association (SOFF) as an example of new integrators entering the defence market.

-This is a technical consultancy, together with partners, delivering a physical platform. We see more integrators entering the market, said Robert Limmergård, secretary general of SOFF.
